November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month. Everybody loves puppies and kittens and they usually don’t stick around very long at the animal shelters and humane societies. Older pets however, have a much more difficult time getting adopted. Often times, older pets can make the best pets. And typically, pets are considered senior if they are 6 years old or older…still with half they’re life left to enjoy! They are typically already trained (housebroken, litter box trained) etc.). Most shelters make it a policy to make sure pets are already neutered or spayed and up to date on vaccines. Older pets also are more calm and easier to manage. Despite all these great options, they are often overlooked for something younger and “cuter”…but considering all they have to offer, they often times can be even more rewarding pets to adopt. If you or someone you know is interested in adding a furry member to your family, please consider adopting a senior pet.
